I currently provide therapy for adults, both online via Zoom and in person in Hastings.

To arrange an informal chat which will allow us to decide whether we can work together, please get in contact either by calling me on 07580 102758 and leaving a message, or you can email me at juliasbennett@gmail.com.  There is no obligation to continue after this, but it will give us a chance to discuss what your needs are, whether you require short or long term therapy (I offer both) and how I might be able to help you.

If you would like to understand what informs my approach, then I hope this will give you a sense of what I bring to my work and how it might fit for you.

I am passionate about the work that I do, but choosing which therapist to work with is an important decision and passion may not be enough for you, so if it’s helpful, there are key elements to my approach that you might find useful to understand. They are partly informed by who I am and my values, as well as having been inspired by my experiences of working with clients for several years now.  They are:

  • Human to Human - At the core of it all, is the fact that we will be two human beings, spending time together each week, talking, giving you a space to share, explore and create the change that you are looking for in your life, without being judged.

  • Safety and Choice - These are values that are fundamental to how I work.  Ensuring you feel emotionally and physically safe is an essential starting point and may also form part of our work together, if safety is not something you are used to experiencing.

  • Respect and Empathy - I believe that you are the expert in yourself, and our work together is designed to help you uncover your own answers, your own strengths and sense of identity. I truly believe that given the right environment and conditions, we can all grow and change. We are all unique and consequently, I approach each client with respect, empathy and a genuine desire to understand what it means to be you and the changes that you want to make to your life.

  • A Tailored Approach - I am trained in different therapeutic approaches, aspects of which I can draw on to offer an approach that is tailored you. It's key that you get what you need from the work that we do together, so I will do what I can to ensure that this is your experience.

  • Relationship - In therapy, the relationship between the client and the counsellor is so important, not least because you need to feel comfortable opening up to me. My job is partly to help you feel safe enough to do so.

  • A Somatic Approach - Although I offer talking therapy, I incorporate the body into my approach, as our body can help us not only to understand what is happening when our minds are unable to access those experiences, but we can also process and heal through working with the body. I can explain more about this, if you would like me to.

  • Trauma Informed - When working with trauma, it is crucial to understand how deeply it impacts us and consequently, how important it is to work accordingly, encompassing both the mind and body, at a pace that is informed by safety and choice.

  • Mindfulness and Compassion - Mindfulness can help us bring awareness to our experience and compassion is an integral part of this.

  • Creative - At times, words don’t come easily, so I offer a creative space to express yourself in ways that may not involve words.

  • Polyvagal Informed - If we are working in a Polyvagally informed way, we see life through the lens of the Autonomic Nervous System, and that how we experience life and our relationships differs according to how  safe or unsafe we feel, or how regulated or dysregulated our Autonomic Nervous system is. If you would like to know more, please see the dedicated page for information on Polyvagal Theory by clicking here.

If you have any further questions or would like to arrange an initial phone or video call, please either call me on 07580 102758 and leave a message or email me at juliasbennett@gmail.com
